An alarming increase in suicide deaths in children and teens may be what Children’s Health Defense calls “one of the worst consequences … not directly caused by the virus, but rather by school closures, isolation and lockdown measures.”
Across the U.S. since the pandemic’s lockdowns began, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempts and behavioral problems have plagued the nation’s youth. In Clark County, Nevada, 18 suicides occurred — more than double last year’s.
In Texas, a suicide screening of 12,827 teens showed that 3.5% had suicidal thoughts or behaviors. And, a national survey of 1,000 teens reported that 5% had attempted suicide during the pandemic.
Other countries with strict lockdown rules are seeing similar numbers.
