Florida Congressman Bill Posey in February introduced a bill that would established a National Commission on the COVID-19 Pandemic, with a goal of investigating how SARS-CoV-2 originated and other pandemic-related issues.
To contact Posey in support of this bill, individuals and organizations can send letters of endorsement to [email protected] and encourage other groups to do the same. Endorsements need not be formal; a quick email will do.
From scientific and public health research on the virus’ origins to looking at charitable and academic organizations’ involvement, to investigating the role Congress played on oversight, and more, the commission also would review any “relevant facts and circumstances” relating to the pandemic.
“More than a year after it emerged and spread around the globe, the coronavirus's origins remain shrouded in mystery,” Posey writes on his website. “Treatments have not been fully established, the economic costs are massive, and even the clinical presentation of the disease is highly variable and not well defined. On top of this, China has continued to obscure full inquiries into the beginnings of the pandemic. Real answers are necessary to secure public health for the future.”
Currently, the bill has two co-sponsors, Rep. Yvette Herrell, R-N.M., and Rep. Jody Hice, R-Georgia. House committees associated with the bill are Energy and Commerce; Financial Services; and Transportation and Infrastructure. The period of time they stay in committee is determined by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.
