NFL quarterback Jay Cutler had 15 concussions during his 12-year stint and now he’s fighting the residuals of the long-lasting after-effects that a concussion can have.
It’s been four years since his last concussion, but he knows that his future will be full of repercussions that even one head injury can induce — not to mention the many he’s had. For example, he already feels his memory slipping.
A brain injury like his is called chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and to stall what may be the inevitable as he ages, he said he’s trying to “cut out” sugar from his diet and to load up on fish oil, which has been “tied to health in the brain.”
He also is taking intravenous Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide (NAD) to boost his body’s mitochondria. “As you get older, you lose NAD,” Cutler said in a press interview. “So I’m doing NAD therapy, which, at a core level, helps everything in your body. I’ve noticed that that’s definitely helped me. Anything I can do these days, I’m trying to get involved in.”
