A recent study from Karl Landsteiner University of Health Sciences in Austria has revealed whether women or men laugh more. Researchers monitored participants over four weeks, highlighting notable patterns in both men’s and women’s laughter habits.
The researchers reported that women laugh more than men, especially as they age, and are more likely to giggle later in the evening. Men, however, laugh less as they grow older. On average, participants experienced 2.5 belly laughs a day and a fit of laughter every four days.
Personality traits also play a role, with conscientious individuals laughing more than their shy peers. Happiness increased by about 25 percent at the time of a belly laugh and by about a third after a fit of laughter. Laughter boosts happiness and life satisfaction, reinforcing the idea that laughter is indeed beneficial for our well-being.
