Tomatoes sold in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina are being recalled because they may be contaminated with salmonella. The FDA says this is a Class I recall, meaning the tomatoes could cause serious illness or even death. They were sold under the H&C Farms label between April 23 and 28 by Williams Farms Repack LLC.
Salmonella is a harmful bacteria that can live on food. It can cause symptoms like fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea. People most at risk include children, older adults, and anyone with a weak immune system. So far, no one has reported getting sick, but the FDA says it’s still important to be careful.
If you bought these tomatoes, don’t eat them. You can return them to the store for a refund or throw them away. If you’ve already eaten them and feel sick, contact a doctor right away.
