Sodas and energy drinks may affect more than your waistline — they could also raise your risk of baldness. A review of 17 studies found that men who regularly consumed high amounts of sugary soft drinks were more likely to experience thinning hair, shedding, and reduced hair quality. In fact, drinking more than 11 cans per week tripled the risk of male pattern baldness compared with men who avoided them.
Researchers say the problem may come from excess sugar and caffeine, which can raise stress hormones, trigger inflammation, and reduce blood flow — all of which damage hair follicles over time. While genetics remain a major factor, the evidence suggests cutting back on sodas and energy drinks may help protect against early hair loss.
The review also found that nutrients such as vitamin D and protein were linked to stronger, healthier hair. Experts recommend limiting sweetened beverages and focusing on nutrient-rich foods like fish, eggs, and leafy greens to support long-term scalp and hair health.
